Focus Program: The Career Academy – Business and Electrical Career Pathways

Why did you choose The Career Academy?

I chose The Career Academy so I could get a jump start on the education I need to prepare for my future.

Why did you choose your TCA career pathway?

I have always wanted to go into a trade, and knowing how a company is run will give me a leg up in my future career.

What do you like most about The Career Academy?

I like the structure of the classes and the support available at any moment. At the beginning of the year, I had technological problems, and I was able to get them handled quickly and efficiently.

What makes The Career Academy different?

TCA is different because it offers a vast range of opportunities that otherwise have not been offered. For example, TCA offers different trade pathways, including the electrical pathway, to students who would otherwise not be able to access them.

How do you get to explore your passions or interests at The Career Academy?

I have hands-on learning opportunities that help put my learning into use while also fueling my passion and interest in the electrical trade.

How has attending The Career Academy empowered you as a student?

I feel empowered because I have been able to be seen and my hard work ethic recognized. I have already been encouraged for my drive to learn in class by my teacher, Andy Putman, and Joshua Jones, the director of The Career Academy.

What are your relationships with other students and staff like within The Career Academy?

I have a friendly relationship with all my classmates, and all the staff at TCA have been helpful, friendly, and welcoming to me.

How has being a part of an LPS Focus Program added to your high school experience?

I got education, opportunities, and experiences that I wouldn't have otherwise had, like being enrolled in the electrical program to further my interest and passion in the field.

How has The Career Academy prepared you for the future?

I met the head of the Nebraska State Electrical Division, thereby establishing groundwork for a future relationship.

Why are focus programs like The Career Academy important to high school students?

They are important to give opportunities to students to explore careers and interests that may become their future career.

What is the greatest thing you’ve learned since attending The Career Academy?

Your education is your responsibility. Some people are more than ready to help you along your pathway in life, but you are the one holding the reins and making those choices.
